Showboat Hotel & Casino The fall of the stars has started in Atlantic City, and all we can do is watch it come apart. The famous Showboat closed the doors, and the darkness fell on the property. Caesars Entertainment has had the property for the last 15 years or so. It was my understanding that the property was not losing money at this time, the decision was to close it I would guess before it became another hotel in the red.
There are two more properties that will probably close as well by the end of the summer. There is a hope that someone will step up and purchase one of the properties. It seems unlikely at this time, since they are in a closing mode. I am sorry to hear that this action has had to be taken by Caesars group, since they are a good company, and their properties do turn a profit. The greatest impact of course is on those employees that lose their jobs. There are some employees that have been with the Showboat since it moved to Atlantic City. I understand from employee comments that it was a good place to work. I hope that Caesars can find jobs for some of them, I know it would be impossible to find jobs for all.
I have written several articles on Atlantic City and have gotten criticized for my remarks. I hold no malice towards those employees that have worked in AC. My remarks have been towards the new property The Revel Hotel, and I won’t make any more comments on that. You can read them at www.hmsco1.wordpress.com
The other hotels that are closing it is a sad time for AC and I wish that there were other bidders that would have stepped up to keep them opened. It seems that the Trump property has had some financial problems, and really never recovered from their previous troubles. For all of those that have been displaced I hope that you all find jobs soon. The bright side of things is that the economy is better and business are hiring. Again it is sad day for the Showboat Hotel a grand lady has sung her last song, farewell and thanks for 27 years of greatness.
