Crisis in Africa
If you have read the latest news of the Ebola crisis that is affecting Africa, you know that a panic will ensue when people think that they can outrun a virus like E bola. The leading Dr. in the charge has himself fallen to the virus.
The hotel industry will suffer along with all travel related services, if the virus is not contained. Hotels have already reported drastic drops in cancellations. According to some statistics 8 out of ten infected people will not survive it. If the virus gets more severe people will not be allowed to fly out of the country, you know what will happen then.
Ever see disaster movies, those horrific scenes of people trying to get out will come true. I pray that the CDC or whoever is spearheading this will contain it, and hopefully stop it. Now if this E bola outbreak was in Las Vegas try to imagine the chaos that would be created.
Las Vegas being a very transient city, with visitors from all over the world, it would, or could be relatively easy to bring in. I say this because the hotel industry is riding an upswing in profits and occupancy. An outbreak of a mortal contagious virus would drastically affect this city. Remember the legionnaire’s virus in Philadelphia? It shut down a major hotel, and no one would get close to it. That scenario would close a few hotels if not all, not because of the virus, because of the fear that the public would have. This city depends on the general public for its livelihood.
During a disaster, it’s not the disaster that takes so many lives, it is the panic that ensues that claims the majority of lives.
I have been involved in two major hotel fire in Las Vegas and I will tell you that when people smell smoke or see fire they do not calmly walk out of the hotel, they run to the nearest exit, and hope that you are not in their way. I mention the crisis in Africa for it could happen here.
